How to strip a polished floor

One of the frequently asked questions we receive is "How do I strip a polished floor and what equipment is required to do so?" Here is a step by step guide for the process including the products you will need.

What equipment do you need to strip a polished floor?

Equipment needed:

03-816 Windmill Fastrack Stripper (not suitable for wooden or linoleum floors)
Or - 03-817 Windmill Challenger Stripper (suitable for all floor types)
14-700 30ml Dosing pump
Slow speed rotary machine (120 –200rpm)
Black floor pad for rotary machine
Edging tool & pads
Mop & bucket
Wet pick-up vacuum cleaner scrubber dryer
Wet floor signage

Method:

Make up solution of stripper in the mop bucket 1:10 with warm water (14 x 30ml dosing pumps to 5L of water).
Mop the solution onto the floor and allow contact time of 5-10mins for Windmill Fastrack and 10-15mins for Windmill Challenger.
Scrub floor using the slow speed machine with black stripping pad fitted (Do not use fast speed machine).
Use edging tool with stripping pad to strip polish from the edges of the floor, taking care to get the edges complete free of old polish.
Ensure the entire floor is kept wet with stripper whilst stripping the floor.
Once completed pick up the slurry using a wet pick up vacuum cleaner.
Check the floor thoroughly to ensure that all old polish has been removed. If polish remains repeat the process from step 2.
Finally when the floor is completely clean rinse the floor with clean water and pick up with the wet pick up machine.

The newly stripped floor is now ready to re-polished if required.
